About Me

Born and raised in Brooklyn, the daughter of Syrian immigrants, I was taught to appreciate the opportunities available to me, and to follow my dreams. I was always drawn to the health field and had a passion for food. However, I did not consider pursuing a career in nutrition until my grandmother began having health issues. I constantly found myself suggesting that if she only changed her dietary habits, she would be in a much healthier state. After taking my first nutrition class at Hunter College, I was hooked and I knew nutrition was the path for me.

My first nutrition related experience was at an internship at a private practice, in which I was given the responsibility of writing blog posts and weekly emails to be distributed to over 2,000 subscribers. I then worked alongside an RD at the Morris Franco Cancer Center, where I helped implement a MyPlate challenge to improve the health behaviors of a group of cancer patients. These experiences helped me see the impact I could have on people's lives as a dietitian. I now work at a nursing home and rehabilitation center where I assist the RD in conducting nutritional assessments, updating care plans, attending interdisciplinary meetings, and more.

My main goal is to help educate individuals on the steps they can take to minimize their risk of disease, or to improve their health outcomes. I am especially interested in helping individuals facilitate behavior changes that can mitigate the onset or progression of chronic diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and hypertension. Throughout my studies, I've constantly been in awe of the relationship between health behaviors and disease state. I look forward to continuing my education by completing a dietetic internship to achieve my goal of becoming a registered dietitian.
